Top-of-the-range MB model debuts.
Mercedes-Benz will take advantage of a pair of major auto shows to showcase its all-new S65 sedan. Its AMG V-12 powered sedan, a 2015 model, will be introduced simultaneously at the Los Angeles Auto Show and Tokyo Motor Show later this month, and hit European showrooms beginning in March 2014. Its North American roll out will take place in the second quarter of 2014.
2015 Mercedes-Benz S65 AMG
The 2015 Mercedes-Benz S65 AMG is the top model in the S-Class range, a sedan that should cost at least $215,000. Perhaps the most significant change for this model is outfitting it with a new seven-speed automatic, replacing the five-speed automatic used in the 2013 edition. No 2014 model was offered.

The S65 sedan is as quick as it is beautiful. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 4.3 seconds and has an electronically-limited top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph) It is outfitted with a 6.0-liter bi-turbo V-12 engine, making 630 horsepower and 1,000 newton meters (738 foot-pounds) of torque.
Improved Fuel Efficiency, Reduced Emissions
The new engine-transmission combination will help the sedan achieve not-yet-announced higher fuel economy ratings, currently pegged at 12 mpg in the city and 19 mpg on the highway. The 2015 S65 will also meet EU 6 exhaust emissions standards set to take force in Sept. 2014.
Key features of the AMG sedan are its sport suspension, based on magic body control and road surface scan, essentially delivering a system that “sees” what surfaces it encounters and adjusts accordingly. It also features an updated head up display (HUD) and touchpad, the latter for controlling the navigation and audio systems, and phone connectivity for a complete infotainment engagement. The HUD system projects vehicle speed, navigation details and safety information.
Other included equipment ranges from a 24-speaker Burmeister 3D surround system to AMG sport pedals. The seats also come with a hot stone massage feature and an app to control seat movement. Available options include ceramic brakes, an exterior carbon-fiber package and a rear seat package with folding tables.
Other S-Class Models
The S65 AMG is a low volume model directed at a small cohort of buyers. Other S-Class models include the S550, priced from $92,900, the S550 4MATIC from $95,900, and the S63 AMG retailing from $139,500. Pricing does not include a $925 destination charge.
At the Los Angeles Auto Show, Mercedes-Benz will make the North American debuts for the GLA 250 and the S63, and introduce three other models. That show will feature more than 50 global and North American debuts including from Mercedes’ top competitors such as BMW, Cadillac, Porsche and Jaguar.
