New York Debut: 2023 Hyundai Palisade

Hyundai’s Palisade has been a strong seller since its debut three years ago, but this Korean manufacturer is not resting upon its laurels. At the 2022 New York International Auto Show today, Hyundai took the wraps off the 2023 Palisade.

The refreshed model includes changes inside and out, improvements certain to keep this three-row, midsize crossover at the top of its game.

True to form, when Hyundai updates a product, they go all in. This manufacturer also usually makes a generation change in no more than six years and as short as four years. It is all in keeping with helping its models stay fresh and competitive.

For 2023, the dimensions of the Hyundai Palisade remain the same. As for pricing and trim details, Hyundai will supply that information just ahead of its summer release.

Exterior Enhancements

The exterior changes are evident from the front with its new fascia. The look seems a bit more intense than before with changes to the bumper, grille, headlamps, and daytime running lights evident.

Other updates include a new multi-spoke alloy wheel design, automatic dimming side mirrors, and a new rear bumper. The patinas remain the same, although “Robust Emerald” is new for 2023.

Interior Refinement

The Hyundai Palisade has one of the more lavish interiors in the segment, especially with the range-topping Calligraphy trim. Nevertheless, the cabin sees several updates including a new instrument panel, gauge cluster and audio interface design.

Other changes include a new steering wheel design, updated seating surfaces, an ergo-motion driver’s seat, and a second-row armrest angle adjuster. For the first time, Hyundai offers heated third-row seats. Also, the Calligraphy trim gains acoustic-laminated rear door glass.

Technologies

A 12-inch color touch-screen display now includes navigation. For the first time, a Hyundai model features a digital, full-display center rearview mirror. A WiFi hotspot is new, while enhanced USB ports and wireless device charging roll-out. Other updates include to its Bluelink connectivity suite, voice recognition, and digital key access.

Upgraded Driver-Assist Tech

The bar for driver-assist tech seems to rise ever higher with each model year. For 2023, the Hyundai Palisade sees expanded equipment for its trims.

These features include forward collision-avoidance assist and navigation-based adaptive cruise control. Highway driving assist, reverse parking collision-avoidance assist, and remote smart parking assist is among the features available. On the “passive” side of the safety arena, the 2023 features standard rear side-impact airbags.

Brand Flagship

Where sedans previously served as the brand flagship, the Palisade has assumed that place. That dovetails with Hyundai’s decision to separate Genesis to create a unique luxury brand. In the meantime, the company canceled its large Azera sedan, leaving the Sonata as its largest four-door car.

With room for eight, the Palisade truly occupies a spot once reserved for now-discontinued models.

Indeed, Hyundai is bullish on the Palisade, which is quite easily its most elegant model. “The enhanced 2023 Hyundai Palisade offers the design appeal and features worthy of Hyundai’s flagship SUV,” said Olabisi Boyle, vice president, product planning and mobility strategy, Hyundai Motor North America.

“More than ever, Palisade is the ultimate family vehicle for daily use and memory-making road trips.”

Moving Forward

What has not changed for the 2023 Palisade is its powertrain. As before, this SUV features a 3.8-liter V6 engine paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. This engine makes 291 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque. Hyundai continues to offer standard front-wheel drive with all-wheel drive available across the trim range.

Lastly, just ahead of the NYIAS, Hyundai announced that it would begin building its Santa Fe Hybrid model at its Alabama manufacturing facility. Hyundai says the Santa Fe Hybrid launches its U.S. electrification efforts, a $300 million investment that will create 200 additional jobs.
