2022 Infiniti QX60 Review

Infiniti has a new QX60 for 2022, a model that finds its place in a crowded segment. This midsize, seven-passenger luxury utility vehicle is back after one-year hiatus. It features a new design from bumper to bumper, an overhauled interior, and an improved powertrain.

It scores well on all things technology and safety, making this SUV something to put on your shopping list.

We have spent more time with this model than what we usually do with any vehicle that we evaluate. For starters, we were introduced to the QX60 at a press event last year in California. About a month afterward, one was sent to our home for an assessment.

In May, we had yet another chance to put the QX60 through its paces. Quite naturally, that extra time helped us to drill down and enjoy the many highlights of this vehicle.

Infiniti QX60 profile

Why such praise for the QX60? Several reasons stand out. Read on and we will explore what they are.

An improved powertrain combination.

Under the hood of the QX60 is a familiar 3.5-liter V6 engine. This workhorse has been around for several years and has served this and other models quite well.

The previous generation version, though, worked with a continuously variable transmission to route power to either the front or to all four wheels. Although we are not big fans of CVTs, we can say that the one offered previously did the job quite well.

But the new transmission, with nine forward gears, is an automatic that we love. Supplied by ZF, it is the ideal partner for the Infiniti V6. We found that the transmission shifted cleanly and competently, working quietly in the background just as it should. As for the engine, it has an output of 295 horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque.

Another improvement this year is that the towing capacity has reached a record 6,000 pounds. That’s an additional 1,000 pounds over the previous model.

Exquisitely designed and sensible exterior.

Some utility vehicles are overall with busy front fascias, overdone body sculpting, and a mishmash of color combinations. The QX60 avoids all that, although the grille itself is large and stately.

The honeycomb design imparts depth and elegance. It is pressed in by beautiful LED accent lights. The wavy hood, an Infiniti embellishment, is found and gives this SUV a muscular persona.

Strong shoulders, flowing character lines, and carefully placed sculpting are beauty points of note. A floating roofline, elegant wheel design choices, and attractive rear lights are other features of mention. Infiniti ties it together with handsome metallic paint choices that match well with this utility vehicle.

A beautifully crafted interior.

Infiniti QX60 seats

Luxury models should deliver peerless materials distributed throughout a comfortable cabin. The QX60 nails it as this model features a rich combination of expensive leathers, gorgeous trim pieces, and ample soft-touch materials. The fit and finish are what you would expect here: excellent.

Infiniti expended much attention to detail, including with its many storage compartments. But our favorite feature had everything to do with accessibility. Specifically, Infiniti created a seat management system that makes access and egresses painless.

In particular, seats such as the second-row captain’s chairs tilt and move forward with a single touch of a button. Think about this: if you have a child or packages in hand, you can make your move with minimal effort.

Notably, those same second-row seats move back in place with one-hand action. The QX60 is a parent pleaser, with the way the seats maneuver and how easily they drop when needed.

Driver-assist safety technologies.

Beyond the requisite rearview camera, a suite of airbags, and stability systems, Infiniti packs the QX60 with a long list of driver-assist features.

All models come with forward automatic emergency braking with forward collision warning and pedestrian detection. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is standard. Lane departure warning and rear parking sensors are included.

Also available is adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, and blind-spot intervention. Shoppers may upgrade to a surround-view parking camera system. Traffic sign recognition and driver drowsiness monitoring are options. Front parking sensors, a head-up display, and a rearview mirror camera can also be had.

These are the kind of features consumers expect and Infiniti delivers.

Infotainment and related convenience features.

Infiniti QX60 dashboard

The QX60 is generously equipped with a 9-speaker audio system, HD radio, satellite radio, multiple USB ports, Bluetooth, and a Wi-Fi hotspot. It also comes with a 12.3-inch touchscreen display, Android Auto, and wireless Apple CarPlay.

Moving up through the trim range brings with it beneficial upgrades. These include a 17-speaker Bose audio system, wireless device charging, and navigation. Also, on some trims, a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster replaces the standard 7-inch digital gauge cluster.

On the Road

The QX60’s engine delivers the correct amount of punch when needed. Strong step-off acceleration and robust passing power are at the ready.

Respectable ride quality, excellent handling, and a quiet interior are other attributes of note. We can see this QX60 performing quite well on long trips, including family vacations where thousands of miles and many stops are enjoyed along the way.

Buyer’s Choice

Infiniti offers the 2022 QX60 in Pure, Luxe, Sensory, and Autograph trims. Prices start at $47,350 and reach $64,000 with a fully optioned Autograph model. Add $1,025 for destination and another $2,000 for all-wheel drive.

Lastly, of the four trims, we expect the Luxe to command the most sales. This model starts at $52,900 and brings in such in-demand features as 20-inch alloy wheels, a power tilt-and-telescopic steering wheel, and heated and cooled front seats. Remote start, a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel, navigation, and an around-view monitor complete the upgrades.
