Grand Wagoneer, the most expensive Jeep, will now cost as much as $111,000.
Jeep has finally done it. America’s off-road brand is pushing into full-size, luxury territory with a pair of new models: the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer. Based on a common body-on-frame platform, these V8-powered models seat seven or eight individuals and will lift the Jeep brand to compete against such top players as the Land Rover Range Rover, Cadillac Escalade, the Lincoln Navigator, and others. The pair go on sale in North America during the second half of 2021.
We’ve been expecting a range-topping Jeep model for many years and soon we will see not just one, but two. Following on the heels of the Jeep Grand Cherokee L, the new models not only bring three-row seating to customers, but a luxury experience marked by multiple screens inside, choice woods, the best leathers, and class-leading amenities. Jeep introduced the two new vehicles on Facebook today.
2022 Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer
If the Wagoneer name sounds familiar you’ve got a good memory or at least you understand Jeep history. This model was built from 1963 to 1991 and was arguably the first SUV of its kind. They originally blended four-by-four prowess and off-road capabilities with high-end features culled from cars of that era. It was truly ground-breaking but also unfortunate that the line was canceled in favor of the smaller Jeep Grand Cherokee that followed.
The two Wagoneer names describe the same level and effectively represent two tiers of luxury. Consider how Land Rover markets its vehicles with the Discovery series representing the standard models and the Range Rover the elite line. Consequently, Jeep intends to cover the entire full-size market with a pair of vehicles starting just below $60,000 and topping $110,000 when fully loaded.
The Dynamic Duo – Highlights
Six trims between them.
The Wagoneer pair offers six trim choices between them. These are the Wagoneer Series II, Wagoneer Series III, Grand Wagoneer Series I, Grand Wagoneer Series II, Grand Wagoneer Obsidian, and Grand Wagoneer Series III. The Wagoneer comes with standard rear-wheel drive and available four-wheel drive. The Grand Wagoneer is four-wheel-drive only.
If the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer seem large, you’re on the mark. To create these models, Jeep turned to Ram, specifically the Ram 1500 pickup truck to utilize its architecture. Ram doesn’t have a full-size SUV, so it was natural to supply the platform to create the new Jeep models. The duo sits on a 123-inch wheelbase and measures 214.7 inches long, 83.6 inches wide, and up to 77.3 inches tall. Ground clearance measures 8.3 inches with the standard suspension and exactly 10 inches with the air suspension. You’ll find a 21.5-degree approach, 18.5-degree breakover, and 21.1-degree departure angles. With the air suspension, those numbers climb to 25/22/24 degrees, respectively.
There are some trim detailing distinctions of note that offer separation between the two models. The brand’s widely recognized seven-slat grille dominates the front fascia with LED accent lighting supplying a beautiful touch. In fact, LED lighting is standard across all six trims and is found in the headlamps, daytime running lights, fog lamps, and taillamps. Other features available include heated and power-folding side mirrors, a sunroof, alloy wheels, and either all-season or all-terrain tires.
Power front seats are standard equipment with both models. Heated and ventilated front seats are included and all but the base Wagoneer model comes with heated second-row seating. Every trim comes with rear leather seats ranging from perforated Nappa to Palermo leather with quilted accents. The steering wheel is leather-wrapped, power-controlled, and heated.
Seats up to eight.
The Grand Cherokee L is the first three-row Jeep SUV we’ve seen in some time. But the Wagoneer models are larger and also have standard three-row seating. The Wagoneer offers standard seating for eight in a 2/3/3 format or seven in a 2/2/3 arrangement with the second-row bench seat swapped out for captain’s chairs. The Grand Wagoneer takes an opposite approach with the seat layout reversed. Cargo space measures 27.4 cubic feet behind the third row, up to 70.9 cubic feet behind the second row, and up to 116.7 cubic feet behind the first row.

We’re covering the many available screens separately, in the paragraph that follows. Beyond that, you’ll find no less than eight USB ports in these range-topping Jeeps or 11 when equipped with the Rear Seat Video Group. Also, besides offering a pair of 12-volt auxiliary power outlets, every trim comes with a 115-volt auxiliary power outlet. But that’s not all! Satellite radio and TomTom Traffic and Travel trial subscriptions are included. The standard audio package is a 9-speaker Alpine system. Also available are a pair of McIntosh audio systems with 19- and 23-speakers, respectively.
We’ve got screens.
In-cabin screens are a common fare for today’s models. Many vehicles offer two, but the Wagoneer models go beyond that by offering up to 75 inches of total screen display in the Grand Wagoneer, including nearly 45 inches of screens along the front instrument panel. The center stack has 10.1- and 12-inch stacked touch-screen displays and an available 10.25-inch screen for the front passenger and that’s connected to Amazon Fire TV. A pair of 10.25-inch screens in the Grand Wagoneer control the front and rear passenger area HVAC systems.
Generous safety tech.
Jeep will make sure you have access to the latest driver-assist safety gear. Indeed, all models come with adaptive cruise control with full stop. Further, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic detection, active lane management, and full-speed forward collision warning with active braking are included. Among the available features are intersection collision assist, parallel and perpendicular parking assist, and front and rear park assist. Moreover, you’ll find other features such as a security alarm, trailer-sway control, remote keyless entry, and push-button start.
The two models will offer separate V8 engines. The 2022 Wagoneer has a 5.7-liter V8 with 392 horsepower and 404 pound-feet of torque. It features cylinder deactivation and a 48-volt hybrid system. The 2022 Grand Wagoneer comes with a 6.4-liter V8 engine with cylinder deactivation and makes 471 horsepower and 455 pound-feet of torque. Both engines work with an 8-speed automatic transmission.
Capable payload and towing.
Depending on the model and trim, the duo have payload ratings of 1,510 to 1,580 pounds for the Wagoneer and 1,360 to 1,450 for the Grand Wagoneer. On the trailer towing front, the Wagoneer pulls up to a best-in-class 10,000 pounds, while the Grand Wagoneer comes in at 9,850 pounds.
Three available four-wheel-drive systems.
Common to many Jeep products are a series of four-wheel-drive systems, in this case, Quadra-Trac I, Quadra-Trac II, and Quadra-Drive II. Along with an available Quadra-Lift air suspension and Selec-Terrain traction management system, Jeep utilizes various ways of helping the Wagoneer models grip the road better and take to the trails. Depending on the chosen system, it’ll supply varying degrees of performance, including how torque is distributed to the wheels that need it most. A mechanical limited-slip differential is standard, while an electronic version is available. Models equipped with Quadra-Trac II and Quadra-Drive II benefit from five settings: auto, sport, rock, snow, and sand/mud.
Package options galore.
To no surprise of anyone, the Wagoneer pair will offer several package upgrades. Many of these features are standard on the top-trim models. You’ll find such features as a head-up display, a wireless charging pad, a digital rearview monitor, power reclining third-row seats, a tri-pane sunroof, and power deployable running boards, among other items.
The Expanded Jeep Brand
With the Wagoneer models in the fold, Jeep models will soon span the entire mainstream market and delve into the luxury sphere. You’ll find Renegade, Compass, Cherokee, Grand Cherokee, Wrangler, and Gladiator models as well, giving Jeep perhaps the most product range of any four-by-four brand.
Besides the models already mentioned as competitors, the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer will be cross-shopped with the Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban, GMC Yukon and Yukon XL, Ford Expedition, Toyota Sequoia and Land Cruiser, and any other full-size SUV.
